Occupational Radiation Exposures in the Czech and Slovak Republics
An overview is given of occupational radiation exposures (ORE) of more than 30,000 workers in the Czech and Slovak Republics, for the period 1975-1990. The results show that the average individual values of effective dose equivalent HE from external irradiation in a given period are comparable with those in developed countries, without any specific trends; in the uranium industry the effective dose equivalent from radon and its daughters and from ore dust constitute about 90% of its total value during the period of analysis; ORE for 20-30% of monitored workers were 0.2 mSv and therefore higher than the total value during the period of analysis; Ore for 20-30% of monitored workers were 0.2 mSv and therefore higher than the MDL; and during the given period an excess dose equivalent value of 50 mSv was obtained for 71 workers (for 35 NPP workers).
