Australia-Wide Calibration Facilities for Ionising Radiation Protection Monitors
A nation-wide system for calibrating radiation protection monitors has been developed at the Australian Radiation Laboratory (ARL), and facilities have been installed in most Australian capital cities. The calibrations are traceable to national standards. Each facility is supplied with 137Cs gamma ray sources, and can also be used to provide calibrations at X ray energies. A prototype was used in an international intercomparison of low air kerma measurements. The results agreed with those of other major standards laboratories to within 1%.
