It is well known that for many elementary particles, there are antiparticles having the property to cause annihilation when the pair interacts. Unfortunately, it seems as though there is a similar situation occurring when it comes to science and the tools used to conduct scientific research. An example in the news of late can be found in the protests against operating the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Similar protests were directed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Upton, NY, USA, before it became operational
