Harmonisation of Individual Monitoring in Europe

In 1996, the European Radiation Dosimetry Group (EURADOS) began a coordinated activity to investigate the degree of harmonisation of the dosimetric requirements and procedures for individual monitoring (IM) in European Union (EU) Member States. The main reason for this initiative was the publication of the Council Directive 96/29 EURATOM of 13 May 1996 laying down basic safety standards for the protection of the health of workers and the general public against dangers arising from ionising radiation.
