Industrial radiation processing is generally a rather low-key activity perhaps because of the possible perception of a large risk being associated with what is actually a rather routine commercial operation. As an example, disposable bandages for consumer use have been sterilised using ionising radiation for decades, but this fact has not been widely publicised. The fact that large quantities of ionising radiation are utilised for industrial radiation processing tends to result in a general apprehension about a type of work that is quite beneficial in nature.
