Experience of Change Management in a Large Scale TLD Service
The body TLD Service provided by the UK National Radiological Protection Board supplies dosemeters to some 5000 employers in various occupations, primarily in the industrial, research and medical sectors, covering some 45,000 persons. The service has been running since the mid-1970s and is based on an in-house dosemeter design using two LiF/PTFE discs per dosemeter. For some time it has been desired to make changes to the system in order to improve system efficiency and performance, including an improvement to the anneal regime and replacement of the control software. The smooth transition from old system to new presented a significant management task. This paper details the extensive planning required to implement these significant changes, and goes on to describe the experience of the first six months of new system operation, covering the transition period and illustrations of present performance.
