Changes in the NRPB Body TLD System

Changes being made in a large scale body TLD personal monitoring system, reading a total of about 500,000 dosemeters a year, are reported. The system is based on wrapped 'plates' carrying two LiF/PTFE discs, and holds calibration factors for every disc. Amongst the improvements are those to the laboratory hardware and to the anneal cycle. Adoption of the latter causes a change to all disc calibration factors, presenting a logistical challenge in implementation, given the large number of dosemeters, about 90,000, in the system. The ways in which the various problems have been dealt with are given, together with data on the improved dosimetric performance and comments on the efficiency and QA of the system.
