Regularities in Development of Radiation Effects in Ontogenesis of Progeny with Both Parents Irradiated: Experimental Studies

Studies of 35,945 offspring of Wistar rats showed that after irradiation of both parents (F0) with doses of 2-4 Gy the manifestation of radiation effects in the descendants of the first (F1) and second (F2) generations in ontogenesis depended upon radiation dose and the stage of development of F2 sex cells at the moment of radiation exposure. After irradiation of the matured oocytes, spermatids and spermatozoids the consequences for F1 are mainly determined by a female (2 and 3 Gy) or their aggravation takes place (4 Gy). After irradiation of the matured oocytes, spermatocyes and spermatogonia (2-4 Gy) the effects for F1 are mainly determined by the male. The death of F1 occurs chiefly in embryogenesis and F2 in early postnatal ontogenesis. It is more marked by the father's line (the descendents of F1 males and intact females) than by mother's (the descendants of F1 females and intact males). Sex cells of F1 males are characterised by higher radiation damage.
