Diagnostic X Ray Imaging using Photostimulable Luminescence Phosphor: An Emerging Alternative to Photographic Film

A.R. Lakshmanan and K.G. Rajan

The imaging plate, based on photostimulable luminescence (PSL in BaFBr.Eu2+), has emerged as a potential alternative to photographic film in diagnostic X ray imaging. It is also finding increasing use in other fields such as X ray diffraction, autoradiography, etc. The principles and merits of this PSL technique are reviewed and discussed briefly.
