Conversion Functions of Effective Dose E and Effective Dose Equivalent HE for Neutrons with Energies from Thermal to 20 MeV

R.A. Hollnagel

Former calculations of the effective dose E in the male MIRD phantom (ADAM) for the five irradiation geometries, AP, PA, Lat, Rot and Iso, were extended to calculations for the female EVA phantom. In addition, irradiations of ADAM from above and from below relative to the upright phantom with parallel and multi-directional beams were considered. The fluence-to-effective dose conversion functions, E/_, are presented separately for ADAM and EVA. The ratios effective dose, E, to effective dose equivalent, HE, express the rise due to the introduction of the radiation weighting factor wR. The differences in E and HE for the ADAM and EVA phantoms are charted as the ratios of the values for ADAM to the combined ones.
