Temperature Effects in LiF TLD-100 Based Environmental Dosimetry

A. Delgado, J.M. Gómez Ros and J.L Muņiz

Analysis of the TLD-100 glow curve evolution during storage at different temperatures in the ambient range, supports and interpretation in which the detected variations in TL yield during ambient exposures are not due to the trapped charges' lack of stability (Randall-Wilkins fading) but to important modifications experienced by the TL traps in this material (sensitivity changes). This paper presents new theoretical and experimental data on the peaks IV and V evolution at 70 oC a temperature that can be considered as the upper practical limit achievable in real exposures. These data confirm previous conclusions regarding the relative roles of fading and sensitivity changes in TLD-100, which can now be extended to the whole range of ambient exposures. Identification of the exact nature of the basic processes affecting TLD-100 during ambient exposures, allows us to propose a rather simple procedure for effectively overcoming the adverse influence of the unpredictable sensitivity changes induced by the fluctuating ambient temperature.
