Photoluminescence Dating on the Alkali Feldspars: Physical Background, Equipment and Some Results

A photoluminescence stimulation spectrum of alkali feldspars has been obtained and a model of the corresponding luminescence processes is proposed. It is shown that infrared light may be used for dating purposes. A simple device is proposed for PL dating using a semiconductor infrared laser. Some dating results are discussed.
