A New Development of Dyed ECE Tracks for Radiation Dosimetry
In a new development, high contrast red dyed ECE recoil tracks in polycarbonate and, partially, in CR39, have been successfully achieved at AEOI for radiation dosimetry. The principle incentive has been the provision of high contrast photon absorbing large dyed tracks on an unaffected bulk material for UV and/or IR spectrophotometry. The method consists of: (a) exposing the polymer to charged particles or neutrons, (b) ECE of tracks, (c) acid sensitisation, and (d) dyeing with a suitable dye. By investigation of the type, concentration, duration and temperature of acid and dye, optimised values of 20% by weight acrylic acid at 75 oC for 3.5 h for sensitisation and 3% by weight eosin bluish at 95 oC for 4 h dyeing provided nearly 100% dyeing efficiency. The optimisation results are also presented and discussed.
