The Measurement of Practical Radiation Fields and Calculation of Ambient and Effective Dose Equivalent

P.H. Burgess, D.T. Bartlett and D.R. McClure

A method was developed for the characterisation of photon radiation fields using collimated filtered Geiger-M¨ller detectors. With information produced by this equipment, calculations were made of the various monitoring quantities, HE, H*(10) and Hp(10), for a range of typical radiation environments. The main conclusion is that worker orientation has the major effect on the ratio of HE to H*(10) rather than energy distribution.
