On the Application of the New ICRU Quantities to the Dose Measurement of Beta Radiation

J. Böhm (INVITED)

The current practice concerning the quantities that are used to express the basic and derived limits in the system of dose limitation of the ICRP is described with regard to beta radiation. Possible changes brought about by the introduction of the new ICRU quantities H*(10), H'(3), H'(0.07), Hp(10), Hp(3) and Hs(0.07) are discussed and examples are given. It is concluded that only a few changes will have to be made in the design and calibration of dosemeters for beta radiation, as the quantities used at present are already phantom related and have been specified for different depths in the phantom.
