The Performance of some Personal Dosemeters for Measuring Hp(10) over a Range of Photon Energies
To measure Hp(10), an ideal dosemeter would be very thin, tissue-equivalent and covered on both sides by 10 mm of tissue-equivalent material. Such an arrangement is bulky and the thinness of the sensitive detector reduces its sensitivity. As an alternative, the sensitivity, relative to the dose at 10 mm depth in a TE material, of various, more practical arrangements, was measured over a range of photon energies. While none had a perfect energy response, one arrangement, comprising sensitised LiF TLDs covered with 2 mm of aluminium, showed a variation of less than ± 20% from the ideal. Also measured was the effect of penetration of high energy beta rays on the performances of the dosemeter arrangements.
