Thermoluminescence Response of LiF:Mg,Cu,P, and LiF TLD-100 to Thermal Neutrons, 241Am Alphas and Gamma Rays

A.S. Pradhan and R.C. Bhatt

Thermal neutron response of LiF:Mg,Cu,P TLD phosphor was found to be equivalent to 0.45 Gy of 60Co gamma rays per 1010 n.cm-2. For LiF TLD-100 phosphor, the corresponding gamma equivalent was found to be 2.46 Gy. Ratio of the main TL glow peak heights of LiF:Mg,Cu,P and LiF TLD-100 powders for 60Co gamma ray was 45 and for 241Am alpha particles 5.5. The severe LET dependence of LiF:Mg,Cu,P could offer an explanation for the anomalous photon energy dependence of this phosphor.
