Determination of Macroscopic Removal Cross Sections of 14 MeV Neutrons for Phantom Solutions
Determination of neutron fluence in the body sometimes includes the use of dissolved material in a water phantom as one component of a set of neutron activation detectors. To estimate the perturbation of the neutron field caused by the dissolved detector materials, macroscopic removal cross sections of 14.7 MeV neutrons were measured for a water phantom. Data obtained by using the 63Cu(n,2n)62Cu reaction were compared with the calculated values. Results show that the removal cross sections of the primary fast neutrons for water and solutions are the same within the limits of error of the measurements for the usual concentrations (10-20 g.l-1) of the detector materials.
